Full course description

This course is part of an innovative professional development program funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Education Innovation Research initiative. Project ENGAGE aims to develop and evaluate a scaling model for the Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education (CARE) program, which has been recommended by the Centers for Disease Control for supporting educator wellbeing and school mental health (Jennings et al., 2017; Brown et al., 2023).
CARE is designed to enhance educators' skills and foster dispositions that create supportive and engaging learning environments. The program integrates emotion skills with mindfulness and compassion practices, which have been proven effective in large-scale randomized controlled trials (Jennings et al., 2017). Research indicates that CARE promotes teacher psychological well-being, improves the quality of classroom interactions, and enhances student engagement, motivation, and reading competence (Jennings et al., 2017; Brown et al., 2023). Furthermore, teacher improvements have been shown to continue over the course of one year (Jennings et al., 2019).
